A new beginning

 Welcome to the new blog!

You may have been one of the half a dozen people who looked at my Wordpress site, but I found it tricky to manage and traffic was small, so here we are, relaunching. I'm also doing this because I'm migrating off social media. I still maintain a Facebook presence, mainly for friends and family, and I'm on Bluesky, but I find so much of it now to be too confrontational. I'm not here for an argument. I'm here, let's face it, to encourage you to read my books. I'd also like to be able to post about books and music I've enjoyed without immediately having to engage in an argument. You can post comments below instead. Be nice. Or, if you can't be nice, at least be kind. If you can't be kind, well, then you'll be happier on social media.

So, to newcomers, who am I?

I'm a writer who lives in Warwickshire with my family. I've also been a teacher for many years, and I've dabbled in radio broadcasting.

I'm most well known for my novel 'A Hundred Years to Arras', which is based on the experiences of my relative Robert Gooding Henson in Northern France in 1917. It's about the everyday Tommy in the trenches. I've also written a short story collection and a novella. Prior to that, I wrote comics for years, in particular adapting classics into graphic novels. I also had a stint on 'Commando'.

I'm going to be using this blog to update on works in progress, dive into the archives to tell you more about previous books, and occasionally post about books and music that I've enjoyed. This is meant to no-nonsense, back-to-basics stuff, hopefully avoiding the politics and head-banging of social media.

Please follow and join the journey.
